Los Altos Law is a boutique law firm specializing in IP (intellectual property) protection, licensing, and enforcement. We have extensive experience in both litigation and patent prosecution. This helps you, 1st, because we have a better idea of what might happen to your patent when it “hits the streets”, and 2nd, because we have a better idea of looking for weaknesses in adverse patents. Languages we speak include “engineer,” “legalese,” and “startup investing.”

We counsel clients on patent matters for a wide range of technologies, including electronics, software, and all things computer related. Our extensive and diverse experience enables us to look at client’s patent-related problems from all sides and provide (as best I can) comprehensive and effective solutions in both prosecution, licensing and negotiation, and litigation.

We occupy a rare intersection of the patent world. We practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office for patent and trademark matters. We work with foreign patent agents to obtain related protection in their countries. We also have experience with litigation before US District Courts in all phases of IP litigation, including investigation, discovery, trial, and settlement. Being able to understand both the prosecution world and the litigation world allows us to suggest better options for clients and to have a better idea of the (still very uncertain) likelihood of success.

We also advise on other matters besides patents. This includes trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, data privacy and security, the growing field of internet law, and of course, IP issues relating to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. We help with understanding and support about the growing collection of AI and internet security regulations which are currently being put in place.

We would be ideal for crafting strategies for use with your IP portfolio, and for building/maintaining a portfolio so that your legal, engineering, and marketing efforts are coordinated. We attempt to provide value for our clients’ technology development. We make it a point to be easily pluggable into existing company structure so we can do our best at creating valuable IP portfolios and provide a positive ROI for the legal budget. We like to think of ourselves as an investment, not a cost.
